What We're* All About
I got advice once (hopefully good) about writing for YOU, the community audience. That advice was "Know your Coat of Arms." Know what you are sharing and what you aren't, what the audience is interested in, what they expect from you, what topics or themes are authentic to you and your business. Delete the rest!
I liked this exercise. Here's what I came up with:
- hand embroidery is cool.
- and relaxing/meditative
- and relatively inexpensive!
- crafty people are awesome
- support other women
- pro-feminist, anti-capitalist, "Mother the Matriarchy"
- community-building/MakeHer Collective
- Momisms
- Show your Work! the messy design process is my FLOW state
- Reader of great fiction + thought provoking SciFi + smutty fairies
- big dork, trying to amuse
- GenX ... yes, I said X
- my local charity: Northampton Co. Education Foundation
- listening is an active skill... and leave room for evolution
What's on YOUR Coat of Arms?
*** NOTE: I suppose that's the "royal We" since "I", Kate- the owner of Modern Hoopla, am the only one currently penning these thoughts, tips, rants, and hopefully helpful information. I struggle with the I vs. WE. "I" seems so personal. Yet we don't really know one another. "I" seems so egotistic when humble/helpful is more my style. "WE" feels disingenuous in that it's only my opinion represented here, not a corporate heirarchy, marketing department, or even a Plus1. Modern Hoopla would NOT WORK without my WE-people however and THAT should be crystal clear. WE are a small group of women who all work part-time, each on their own areas of expertise in the production of our whole line of products. Couldn't do this without WE!
